Scholarships awarded to area students


SYLVA, N.C. – Jackson Paper Manufacturing has awarded $500 scholarships to two North Carolina college students.

Scholarship recipients are Hayden Hodgin and Jennifer Davidson.

Hodgin is a graduating senior at Smoky Mountain High School and the son of Alvin and Melanie Hodgin of Sylva. This fall, he will enter the General Education program at Southwestern Community College.

Davidson, daughter of Jeff Morgan and Sandy Robinson of Sylva, is a senior at Western Carolina University, majoring in Birth – Kindergarten Professional Education.

Each of the recipients has a parent who is an employee at Jackson Paper.

Jackson Paper has been awarding college scholarships annually to the children of employees since 1992. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average, letters of recommendation, and school and community activities and honors.

Jackson Paper Manufacturing is an independently owned paper mill in Sylva, NC and the largest producer of 100% recycled paper in North Carolina.
